The National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government-funded organization that assists eligible students who wish to study at public universities and TVET( Technical and Vocational Educational and Training) Colleges in South Africa. NSFAS do that by covering the tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and other essential costs. All applicants can now access the 2025-2026 NSFAS Registration portal. Please be sure to register before the deadline.

How to Register Online for NSFAS 2025-2026

Visit the official NSFAS website or portal to register for the forthcoming academic year. This will allow you to access the NSFAS Portal.

Establish an Account:

Create an account by providing correct personal information and creating a login.

All information related to registration:

Provide the necessary facts, such as your contact information, household income, and academic background.

Upload Required Documents:

As instructed, prepare and upload the required documents, including identification, proof of income, academic transcripts, etc.

Send in your registration:

After checking all the information, submit your registration for review.

Eligible Criteria to Register Online for NSFAS 2025

SASSA grant recipients
South African citizens or permanent residents
Candidates whose annual gross household income combined is not greater than R350 000
individuals with disabilities whose gross yearly family income is not greater than R600,000.
Both a cell phone number and email address are required.

What does the NSFAS Online Registration cover?

Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.

UNIVERSITY

Accommodation As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private
accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
Book allowances R5200 per annum
Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
Transport R7000 per annum
Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How to Re-register for NSFAS Online 2025

The following steps will help you to re-register for NSFAS 2025:

Visit www.nsfas.org.za
Then you Click the myNSFAS tab
After that, you Click on “Register“
You have to tick the box to allow NSFAS to confirm your details
Then provide your ID number as it is stated on your ID document
Enter your full name and surname on your ID document
Enter your current email address
Verify your email address
Type in your cellphone number
And then, you create a password
Confirm password
Upload all your ID copy
Click on “Register“
A one-time PIN (OTP) will be sent to the email and cellphone number provided (after 24 hours this OTP will expire)
Enter the OTP and click on submit
You just completed your Re-registration for NSFAS 2025
