How Do You Check If NSFAS Will Fund Me? How Do I Check My NSFAS Status

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) gives important assistance to South African students furthering higher education. Securing financing requires you to first determine if you qualify for NSFAS funding.

Once your funding application has been submitted to NSFAS, it is important to know how to determine if the funds have been awarded to you. Students must create a myNSFAS profile before they may submit an online NSFAS application. Here’s how to find out if NSFAS will provide you with funding.

NSFAS Needed Documents for 2025 Applications

You will need the following support for your NSFAS online application 2025:

  • You must provide a copy of your student ID / Birth certificate
  • A copy of the parent/s or guardian/spouse’s ID
  • A Smart card: both sides of the card are required
  • Proof of income (where applicable)
  • Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
  • A vulnerable child must provide a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
  • An applicant who has indicated that he/she has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA

How to Check If NSFAS Will Fund Me?

  • Visit the NSFAS Portal: www.nsfas.org.za
  • Login to MyNSFAS Account with your username and password.
  • Once you are on the login page, go to the dashboard.
  • You will find a section labelled ‘Application Status’.
  • Click on “Track Funding Progress”.
  • Your current application status will be displayed

NSFAS Application Status

Your application’s status could be any of the following:

  • Submitted: Your application has been received by NSFAS.
  • Under Review: Your application is being processed and assessed by NSFAS.
  • Provisionally Funded: Your application has been approved, subject to the submission of any required additional information or documents.
  • Funding Approved: Your application has been successful, and you have been awarded NSFAS funding.
  • Declined: Your application has been unsuccessful.

Procedure for Appeals:

If you are rejected, look into the appeals procedure. Appeals under NSFAS are frequently permitted, giving you the chance to provide further data or proof to back up your claims.

Other Sources of Funding:

Investigate other funding sources if the NSFAS rejects your application or if you don’t fit their requirements. There may be financial aid, bursaries, or scholarships from other organizations.
